Tahoe Transportation District (TTD), a rural transit agency serving a winter sports region, needed a way to keep its fixed-route bus network staffed and adjusted as demand shifted seasonally. With three service bids each year and then sudden COVID-19 disruptions, driver shortages, and the loss of its dedicated scheduler, the team needed a flexible scheduling process; they used Via’s Remix Planning and Scheduling products to help manage these changing conditions.

Via’s Remix tools enabled TTD’s transit planners to take over scheduling, run emergency re-bids, and optimize winter and summer schedules without starting from scratch. The team could build from existing schedules and import route information directly from Remix Planning, and despite not having a dedicated scheduler, TTD was still able to complete each bid’s blocking, runcutting, and rostering in about three weeks while maintaining consistent, high-quality service.
