SSB Flex - Customer Case Study

SSB Flex, the on-demand mobility service operated by Stuttgarter Straßenbahnen AG in Stuttgart, needed to expand and modernize its city transport offering to better serve riders when traditional public transit fell short. In 2021, the customer partnered with Via to replace its previous provider and upgrade the service across the city.

Via implemented SSB Flex 2.0 with an 11-vehicle fleet, app and phone booking in German and English, accessibility improvements for visually impaired riders, and multimodal trip integration. The transition from the prior system was completed in just a few weeks, and by May 2021 the service had reduced vehicle travel by 15,540 km and saved 4.3 metric tons of CO2, with 35% of trips carrying at least two passengers.
