Metro Transit - Customer Case Study

Metro Transit faced the challenge of providing convenient, efficient mobility in harder-to-serve parts of St. Louis with limited fixed-route service—covering first-and-last mile needs and overnight trips for shift workers. To address this, Via launched Via Metro STL, an on-demand microtransit service operating in two city zones to connect riders to Metro’s broader network and fill overnight service gaps.

Via implemented the service with a 12-vehicle fleet and flexible hours, quickly adapting during COVID to absorb suspended bus ridership. The program has completed 13,000+ rides with a 4.8/5 average rating; 75% of trips begin or end at light rail stations and more than 15% of riders use the service to commute overnight, demonstrating Via’s measurable impact on access and transit connectivity for Metro Transit.
