Harvard University - Customer Case Study

Harvard University sought to address student safety concerns related to late-night travel across its campus. The university's existing shuttle options often resulted in long wait times, frustrating students and leading them to walk alone or use unsubsidized, non-campus ride services. To provide a safer, more convenient, and free alternative, Harvard partnered with the vendor Via to implement an on-demand solution.

Via provided the technology to power a custom-built mobile app for a new evening van service. The solution used an algorithm to optimize shared rides in real-time, minimizing wait times and detours for faculty, staff, and students. The service operated within set boundaries and hours, with centralized pickup locations to streamline the process. As a result, Harvard successfully augmented its fixed-route shuttle system with an efficient, on-demand option that enhanced safety and convenience for the campus community.
