Employees acquire accessible transport to the workplace

BASF engaged Via to redesign on‑site mobility at its Ludwigshafen site, a 10.4 km2 industrial complex with more than 39,000 employees. BASF’s challenge was to eliminate reliance on personal vehicles across the site, reduce single‑occupancy trips and parking pressure, and improve traffic safety; Via (via the ViaVan joint venture) was contracted to deliver the Standort Shuttle using Via’s Transportation‑as‑a‑Service (TaaS) on‑demand shared‑ride technology.

Via launched Standort Shuttle in September 2018, operating 18 vehicles across the site and integrating on‑demand rides with BASF’s fixed‑route buses. The service averages nearly 500 rides per day, has grown about 40% month‑over‑month, serves roughly 2,000 active riders, and maintains average wait times under 8 minutes. Via’s TaaS and routing algorithm reduced duplicated trips, eased parking and traffic loads, extended service beyond site boundaries, and improved employee and visitor experience and safety.
