Citywide DRT service sees 100,000 rides in less than 6 months

The customer, MK Connect, a public transport initiative by the Milton Keynes Council, faced the challenge of replacing underperforming, costly bus routes with a more efficient and sustainable service. They partnered with the vendor Via to implement a digital demand-responsive transport (DDRT) solution, aiming to cut costs and improve rider experience while reducing carbon emissions.

Via replaced fixed bus routes with an on-demand service primarily using electric vehicles. The results were highly successful, with average wait times under 30 minutes and annual savings of £1 million. Furthermore, Via's analysis showed the solution reduced transportation-related carbon emissions in the city by 14% by drawing passengers away from private cars and other higher-emission modes.
