BerlKönig - Customer Case Study

BerlKönig is an on-demand shuttle service launched by the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) to complement Berlin’s extensive fixed-route network and fill service gaps during late nights, weekends, and in poorly served areas. To meet this challenge BVG partnered with Via to deploy an affordable, flexible ridesharing pilot that connects with existing trip planners and targets trips that are slower or inconvenient by traditional transit.

Via implemented a fully integrated on-demand solution using a fleet of Mercedes‑Benz vehicles (including all‑electric minibuses and wheelchair‑accessible vans), cash and kiosk booking options for unbanked or non‑smartphone users, and API integration with BVG apps. The service now runs 24/7 across a 24‑square‑mile zone with 130 vehicles (more than half electric) and plans to expand to 300, delivering ~25,000 rides per week with a 97% customer satisfaction rate and winning the UITP award for Public and Urban Transport Strategy.
