A Ribbon Communications Case Study
Marcatel, a Mexican telecommunications provider serving 150 cities, needed to modernize its large TDM-based network while lowering transport, energy, and operating costs and preparing for future IP services. Ribbon Communications was selected to help replace the legacy infrastructure with a more scalable, converged IP-based architecture.
Ribbon Communications implemented its C3 Gateway Controller, G2 and G9 media gateways, and Session Border Controller to centralize call control, simplify the network, and enable secure IP-to-IP interconnection. The rollout reduced the footprint and associated energy use compared with TDM—so much so that Marcatel’s COO said the savings in air conditioning and power “is by itself the business case”—while also enabling SIP trunking, carrier VoIP peering, and other new services.
