A Riak Case Study
Comcast, a leading entertainment and information services provider, needed a more efficient way to support internal application development with a scalable, highly available key-value store. The company’s challenge was to improve developer efficiency while keeping the system robust and maintainable, and it was initially using an externally hosted storage service before seeking an in-house alternative.
Riak provided the solution with Riak KV Enterprise Software, which Comcast used to build its Highly-Available Object Storage System (HOSS). With Riak, Comcast gained a flexible HTTP-based object store that reduced encryption and cross-data-center replication overhead, improved control, and simplified operations to the point that, as Comcast noted, they did not need a dedicated Riak KV administrator.
