Basho Helps Bet365 Deliver A Seamless Gaming Experience

Bet365, a leading online gambling group serving over 19 million customers in 200 countries, faced exploding mobile traffic and data volumes that its SQL infrastructure could no longer scale without complex sharding. The company needed predictable low latency, high availability and strong partition tolerance for real-time odds and in-game updates, and set its sights on a solution like Riak (Basho’s distributed NoSQL database) to meet those requirements.

Bet365 implemented Basho’s Riak platform (Riak KV) across multiple datacenters — initially 32 nodes supporting about 1 TB of active data with plans to grow to ~100 — delivering linear horizontal scale, fault tolerance and predictable low latency even under deliberately triggered failures. Riak produced immediate business and technical benefits: reliable handling of peak loads, support for real-time features like Cash Out, reduced operational complexity for developers, and a seamless, faster mobile gaming experience for customers.
