KIPP Chicago donates 525 furniture items with Rheaply, keeping 4.1712 tons out of landfill

KIPP Chicago, a network of public charter schools, faced the challenge of responsibly disposing of 525 pieces of surplus furniture from two of its schools. Needing to have the items removed before the new school year, they wanted to avoid sending the usable desks and chairs to a landfill and instead donate them to benefit other local organizations. They identified the Rheaply platform as a solution to facilitate this donation.

Rheaply provided its resource exchange platform and ecosystem team to manage the process. They trained KIPP staff, expanded outreach to local organizations, and coordinated logistics partners. As a result, all 525 items were claimed and donated within 30 days. This provided over $63,000 in value to recipients, which included Chicago Public Schools and other community organizations, and kept 4.17 tons of material out of the landfill.
