City of Austin avoids $481K in procurement costs with Rheaply

The City of Austin, operating across dozens of departments, faced a significant challenge due to a lack of operational visibility into its vast inventory of existing assets. Without a centralized system, staff had no reliable way to discover available furniture and equipment internally, leading to unnecessary new purchases and inefficient manual coordination for surplus items. The city partnered with the vendor Rheaply to address this issue.

By implementing Rheaply's resource management platform, the City of Austin created a centralized system for departments to list, browse, and claim assets. This solution enabled internal sourcing before external procurement. The results were substantial: Rheaply helped the city avoid $481,470.97 in procurement costs, reuse 1,292 assets, divert 50,000 pounds of material from landfill, and avoid an estimated 66,810.65 kg of CO₂e emissions, all while onboarding 1,658 users across 45 departments.
