Using Geospatial Data Analytics To Provide Forested Asset Decision Support

John Clegg & Co, a forestry management and advisory business, needed more current and accurate information on woodland assets to support management, insurance, and valuation decisions. Traditional forest surveys were only completed on a five-year cycle, making them costly and potentially outdated for assessing species mix, tree health, windblow damage, and timber value. Rezatec’s geospatial data analytics and Earth Observation-based forestry products were used to address this challenge.

Rezatec mapped species distribution, stand mensuration, windblow damage, and health indicators for two forested assets in Scotland using optical and radar data, machine learning, and a web-based portal for frequent updates and geospatial views. The solution revealed greater species diversity than existing records showed, improved valuation accuracy, enabled automatic detection of recent windblow damage, and provided quantification of timber stock and losses, giving John Clegg & Co more timely and actionable forest inventory insights.
