A Rezatec Case Study
The City of Eden Prairie, a growing community in Minnesota, faced the challenge of proactively maintaining its extensive water distribution network. The city's Utilities Division, led by Rick Wahlen, needed to move beyond reactive repairs and predict where pipe failures were most likely to occur in its complex glacial moraine soil conditions. To inform its capital improvement planning and ensure taxpayer dollars were best spent, the city partnered with vendor Rezatec and its geospatial AI platform.
Rezatec's solution fused the city's internal GIS and historic incident data with satellite and external soil data to run advanced algorithms. This provided the Utilities team with a predictive analysis identifying the network areas at highest risk of failure with an anticipated 80% accuracy. This data-driven insight allows Eden Prairie to target costly investigative technologies more effectively, plan proactive replacements, and avoid more expensive emergency repairs. The city anticipates the Rezatec investment will be offset by savings from avoiding emergency repairs, which can cost 30% more.
