California Medical Business Services (CMBS), a billing and coding services organization for radiology clinics in California, needed a more efficient way to collect self-pay balances and improve patient communication. With small balances hard and expensive to collect, their A/R was growing and staff were spending time on low-dollar accounts rather than higher-value claims. CMBS turned to RevSpring and its outbound IVR solution to address these revenue cycle challenges.
RevSpring implemented automated outbound IVR calls for collections, bad information correction, appointment reminders, and clinical reminders. The result was a 15% increase in daily payments, a 20% decrease in bad-debt write-offs, virtually zero A/R over 120 days old, and a one-third reduction in paper statement costs. CMBS also cut no-show rates from 8% to 4% and increased business by 40% through clinical reminders, while one imaging center saw a 50% decrease in bad debt on gross charges.
