Union Bank & Trust, a nearly century-old regional bank serving Nebraska and Kansas, faced an outdated annual performance review system that failed to motivate employees or produce consistent results. Reviews were uneven across managers, engagement and goal-setting were low, and managers spent excessive time on preparation and administration with no clear impact on performance.
UBT redesigned its approach with a quarterly "4 by 4" conversation model and implemented customized Reviewsnap software to support it. The new process cut review administration time by two‑thirds, raised completion rates to 100% (from about 50%), and significantly improved manager–employee communication, engagement and ownership of performance across the organization and its affiliates.
