A Revel Systems Case Study
Goodwill Industries of North Florida, a nonprofit with 23 stores and 18 donation centers serving the region since 1940, was hindered by aging, master/slave legacy POS systems that failed during storms and internet outages, causing lost sales, slow maintenance, and lengthy employee training. Director of IT Adam Thayer sought an enterprise-class, weather-resilient solution that could support multiple locations and reduce operational complexity.
In July 2012 Goodwill deployed Revel’s iPad POS across its locations; features like Always On Mode, iPad 3G connectivity, and Bluetooth peripherals enabled offline transactions, quick device swaps, and mobile disaster recovery. The rollout reduced downtime and training time, added customer-facing displays and donation software to streamline operations, and produced hardware savings estimated at about $700 per register—roughly $38,500 organization-wide.
