How Avo saved hundreds of engineering hours by making access to customer data more secure

Avo, a data analytics company helping teams like Patreon and TripAdvisor ship and measure products, needed a secure way for customer-facing teams to access and update customer data without relying on engineers. With customer support, sales, and marketing all needing visibility into production-level data in Firestore, Avo faced a tradeoff between security and speed.

To solve this, Avo used Retool to build an internal customer dashboard on top of Firestore, with engineering-controlled queries, sanity checks, and deep links into customer workspaces. The result was faster, safer access to customer data across the company: tasks that previously took hours now take seconds, engineers are freed from repetitive requests, and Avo says the tool has saved hundreds of engineering hours while keeping production data safe.
