Fera, a joint venture scientific organization employing nearly 400 scientists, needed a better way to plan resources, improve visibility of staff skills, and schedule pipeline and committed projects more effectively. To address this, Fera turned to Retain International and its Retain resource planning software to create a single centralized platform for workforce planning and capacity management.

Retain International implemented Retain across Fera’s operational science and research staff, supported by training, communications, and integrations with SAP and Outlook. Within two months, the system was live for all users, over 95% of operational staff had time planned, and more than 40,000 project days were scheduled for 2016, representing £15.6m of resource cost and 56% of operational capacity; the solution is also helping Fera improve forecasting, resource allocation, and financial planning.
