Akamai, a global internet and technology company, needed to accurately measure and maximize the carbon reduction impact of its clean energy investments across its vast, decentralized network of data centers. This challenge was complex due to the lack of operational control over its electricity sources and the limitations of existing regional emissions data. To gain clarity, Akamai turned to REsurety and implemented its Locational Marginal Emissions (LME) solution.

REsurety's LME technology provided Akamai with high-resolution data to calculate the precise emissions avoided by each of its projects, showing exactly which fossil fuels were being displaced. This empowered Akamai to monitor its sustainability contributions, compare and select new power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the greatest decarbonization potential, and understand the specific drivers of its carbon abatement.
