Virgin Money faced the challenge of ensuring 200+ elite athletes could safely compete in the 2021 London Marathon after the 2020 cancellation due to COVID-19. To prevent infection spread among athletes, support teams and hotel staff arriving from around the world, Virgin Money engaged Restrata to deploy the Restrata Platform Pandemic solution for rapid, individual-level monitoring and contact tracing.

Restrata implemented the Restrata Platform using Bluetooth beacons and sensors across five hotel zones, providing real-time contact tracing, person-to-person violation alerts, and exposure tracking via a single cloud dashboard. Deployed off-site and live in under 10 days, Restrata’s solution enabled administrators to identify and isolate contacts quickly and ensured every elite runner was able to compete without COVID-related disruption.
