Modine runs 18 million-cell transient CFD in days with Rescale

Modine Manufacturing Company, a global designer and manufacturer of heat transfer solutions, faced severe computational limitations in their CFD simulations. Their in-house workstations, with only up to 10 cores, made complex transient simulations, which could take three months, impractical. This prevented them from eliminating simplifying assumptions in their models and advancing their product development. They turned to the Rescale platform to access cloud high-performance computing.

Using Rescale with STAR-CCM+ Power on Demand licensing, Modine gained access to virtually unlimited cores, such as 500-core clusters, to run large transient conjugate heat transfer simulations. This reduced simulation times from months to just a few days. The solution allowed Modine to model complex transient phenomena like thermal stresses in EGR coolers, providing more detailed and accurate results to customers faster.
