Liberty University Engineering Invests in Cloud-Native HPC to Enable New R&D Capabilities

Liberty University’s School of Engineering faced rapidly growing demand for computation‑intensive R&D across civil, electrical, industrial, mechanical, and computer engineering programs but lacked the on‑premises HPC capacity, personnel, and budget to scale. After evaluating cloud options and getting a recommendation from a software vendor, Liberty selected Rescale’s cloud‑native HPC platform to provide on‑demand, scalable compute, visualization, and pre/post‑processing capabilities.

Rescale deployed an all‑in‑one cloud HPC solution (integrated with Azure architectures) that delivered preconfigured job templates, IT management tooling, and access to specific hardware and 800+ optimized applications. The platform cut IT burden, enabled project‑level cost controls, and dramatically improved throughput—researchers report running several jobs in the time it used to take to run one (previously a 3‑day wait), supporting 2,500+ HPC experiments and over 6 million core hours—accelerating student and faculty research and reducing capital expenditures.
