Eco-Runner Team Delft Uses Rescale’s Big Compute Platform to Design a Fuel-Efficient Vehicle

Eco-Runner Team Delft, a student engineering team at TU Delft, needed to design a highly fuel-efficient hydrogen-powered vehicle for the Shell Eco-marathon while meeting a tight three-month schedule and keeping the car light enough to handle a hilly course. They used Rescale’s ScaleX platform and ANSYS Mechanical for finite element analysis to explore weight-saving design options without sacrificing structural integrity.

Rescale provided cloud-enabled big compute access that let the team run simulations on 192 cores and scale up on demand, cutting simulation turnaround from days to hours. With Rescale, Eco-Runner Team Delft completed a broad design exploration phase, reduced the carbon-fiber body weight by 5%, and improved the vehicle’s overall energy efficiency in time for competition.
