Eco-Runner Team Delft reduces carbon-fiber body weight by 5% with Rescale

Eco-Runner Team Delft, a student engineering team at TU Delft, faced the challenge of designing a highly fuel-efficient, hydrogen-powered vehicle for the Shell Eco-marathon. Their goal was to minimize the vehicle's weight to improve its ability to climb a hill on the course, all while working under a tight three-month schedule and a constrained student budget. To meet this challenge, they turned to Rescale's ScaleX platform for cloud-enabled simulation.

By using Rescale's Big Compute platform, the team gained immediate, cost-effective access to high-performance computing resources, running simulations on up to 192 cores. This drastically reduced their simulation turnaround time from days to hours. The solution enabled comprehensive design exploration, allowing the team to discover new concepts that reduced the carbon-fiber body's weight by 5%, thereby increasing the vehicle's overall energy-efficiency.
