DENSO Partners with Sorbonne University to Accelerate FreeFEM Simulation and Streamline Industrial Product Manufacturing on Rescale

Denso’s Heat Exchanger R&D Division needed to speed up simulation-driven development for next‑generation thermal systems used in electric and automated vehicles. Limited and often booked on‑premises HPC (FOCUS) plus the complexity of running open‑source tools like FreeFEM made it hard for designers to iterate quickly, so Denso selected Rescale’s ScaleX platform to provide on‑demand cloud HPC and a more user‑friendly simulation environment.

Rescale implemented Rescale ScaleX, helped set up license servers, security/compliance, and a GUI-enabled FreeFEM workflow (with partners), allowing designers to run jobs from a browser in minutes. The move cut simulation time by about 75% (from ~80 hours to ~20 hours), halved product development time, reduced prototyping and development costs, and enabled a hybrid on‑prem/cloud strategy to optimize compute efficiency — all enabled by Rescale.
