Cloud HPC Simulation Enables Boom’s Supersonic Passenger Jet to Take Off

Boom Supersonic, an aerospace startup building a supersonic passenger jet, needed to run extremely compute‑intensive CFD and stress simulations but lacked the capital and IT staff to build an on‑premise HPC center. To meet this challenge, Boom turned to Rescale and has run its simulations on Rescale’s ScaleX platform from day one, gaining pay‑as‑you‑go, on‑demand cloud HPC (including an ITAR‑compliant environment) without investing in internal infrastructure.

Rescale delivered a turnkey ScaleX solution—integrated engineering software, automated cloud cluster provisioning, and enterprise administration—that let Boom scale jobs (commonly on 512 cores), parallelize parametric design studies, and eliminate IT overhead. The result: dramatic performance and productivity gains (up to ~600× versus a typical workstation and more than 6× per job), the ability to evaluate hundreds of design configurations rapidly, and faster development of Boom’s XB‑1 demonstrator while controlling costs and security.
