American Axle & Manufacturing, a global Tier 1 automotive supplier, needed a more scalable way to run complex CFD and thermal simulations for driveline and drivetrain components. The company’s CAE team was constrained by a single 64-core server, making it difficult to complete multiple lubrication and oil-flow simulations in parallel when urgent results were needed. They turned to Rescale and STAR-CCM+ Power-on-Demand to address these compute and licensing limitations.

With Rescale, American Axle & Manufacturing could burst to on-demand cloud HPC resources and run multiple jobs simultaneously instead of waiting on in-house capacity. This enabled the team to deliver simulation results in days rather than much longer, improved flexibility for both routine and urgent projects, and made CAE workflows significantly more efficient. The company also highlighted Rescale’s willingness to install additional software and is considering expanding use beyond bursting to replace some in-house server workloads.
