A Renishaw Case Study
SAME DEUTZ-FAHR, a world-leading manufacturer of tractors and agricultural equipment, faced significant challenges in its automated production of high-value transmission components. The customer needed to eliminate scrap caused by undetected broken tools during drilling and tapping operations and to drastically reduce the non-productive time spent on tool checks, which was taking almost 12 minutes per component.
Renishaw addressed this by implementing its TRS2 non-contact laser tool recognition system for in-process control. This solution provided fast and reliable tool inspection, reducing the time per tool check from 21 seconds to 7 seconds. The results were substantial: component cycle times were reduced by nearly 8 minutes, scrap was eliminated, and non-productive time was dramatically cut. This led to savings of over €150,000 in the first year alone, providing Renishaw's customer with a return on investment in just 5 months.
