A Renaissance Case Study

Using nonfiction digital text to engage and empower all readers

Myers Elementary School in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania, wanted to help students who struggled to work through full-length books and needed a more engaging way to build reading skills. Vendor Renaissance addressed this challenge with Renaissance Accelerated Reader 360®, which combined independent reading practice with nonfiction digital articles and built-in skills activities.

With Renaissance Accelerated Reader 360®, students quickly embraced the shorter, interactive articles, choosing topics of interest and using features like highlighting, tagging, citing, and online discussion. Renaissance helped remedial fourth graders begin working at a fifth-grade level with support, while enrichment third graders moved through articles quickly; teachers also saw stronger comprehension, greater confidence, and improved engagement with Common Core-style skills.
