A Renaissance Case Study

Triggering and building the aha moment in math

Benjamin Carson High School in Detroit, Michigan, faced the challenge of serving students who arrived below grade level and needed intensive math interventions, in a school where 95 percent of students qualified for free or reduced lunch. Renaissance provided Renaissance Accelerated Math® to help address these needs and support students in building foundational math skills.

Renaissance implemented Accelerated Math as an individualized intervention system that assessed each student’s starting point, created standards-based learning plans, and monitored progress quarterly. The result was significant first-quarter to fourth-quarter growth in percentile ranks, and students began to gain confidence in their math abilities as they experienced success and filled in knowledge gaps.
