A Renaissance Case Study
The Mission Consolidated Independent School District (MCISD) faced significant literacy challenges, including a 50 percent adult illiteracy rate in its county and a student population where 83% are economically disadvantaged and 32% are English Language Learners. To foster a community-wide culture of reading and provide engaging materials in both English and Spanish, the district partnered with Renaissance and implemented its myON and Accelerated Reader solutions.
Renaissance's myON platform provided unlimited, 24/7 access to a vast digital library, tripling the number of books students read and leading to over 539,000 digital books read in a single school year. The embedded tools and scaffolds supported struggling readers, and the availability of resources in Spanish was critical for the dual-language community. This initiative, extended to the entire community through special accounts, resulted in a measurable impact with community members reading an additional 79,657 books, transforming literacy dynamics across the district.
