How one FL district is using data to improve state test scores and encourage reading

Bradford County School District, a rural K–12 district in Starke, Florida, needed better ways to use student data to improve instruction and close reading gaps. Although it had long used Renaissance tools such as Accelerated Reader, Star Reading, Star Math, and Star Early Literacy in elementary grades, teachers in middle and high school lacked actionable data and were relying on guesses and inconsistent assessments.

Renaissance helped the district extend Star Reading across middle and high school, while also adding myON Reader and myON News to boost independent reading access and engagement. The impact was strong: third-grade proficiency rose from 47% to 59% in one year, district assessments predicted Florida Standards Assessment results within 1% to 3% for three of five schools, and students gained much greater access to books and reading minutes through digital reading challenges and home access.
