How Lompoc USD is adapting to students’ ever-changing reading habits

Lompoc Unified School District in California needed to quickly launch a reading program, increase student engagement, and get the word out to families, especially given limited home access to computers and books. To meet this challenge, the district turned to Renaissance solutions including myON Reader, myON News powered by News-O-Matic, Accelerated Reader, and Star 360.

Renaissance helped Lompoc USD roll out a summer reading initiative that was promoted through flyers, radio, door-to-door outreach, and English- and Spanish-language materials. The program drove strong results in under two months, including 15,888 books accessed, 131,000 minutes spent reading, 273,000 pages read, and 19.6 million words read, with notable at-home, weekend, and early-morning reading activity from students and families.
