Case Study: Alta Vista Charter School achieves consistently high student performance with Renaissance solutions

Colorado K–6 charter school consistently performs above district average

Alta Vista Charter School in Lamar, Colorado, needed to support a customized Core Knowledge curriculum, individualize instruction for a diverse K–6 student population, motivate students with immediate feedback, and encourage independent learning. To meet those needs, the school turned to Renaissance, using Star Reading, Accelerated Reader, Star Math, and Accelerated Math.

With Renaissance, Alta Vista gained assessment and practice tools that support personalized instruction, accountability reporting, and independent skill-building. The results have been strong: students consistently perform above district averages, reached the 82nd percentile in reading and 88th in math on PARCC, and 88% of the school met DIBELS growth goals. The school also reports that nearly every student gains a year of math growth annually, and more than half of sixth graders were placed in advanced math classes.
