Case Study: Capital School District builds a strong reading culture with Renaissance

A Renaissance Case Study

Preview of the Capital School District Case Study

Books on the beach and a strong dedication to reading

Capital School District in Dover, Delaware, wanted to build a stronger reading culture, encourage students to read over the summer, and get more books into students’ hands. Working with Renaissance, the district used Renaissance Accelerated Reader®, along with Renaissance Star 360®, to help engage students and support reading growth.

Renaissance implemented summer reading programs at Hartly Elementary that kept the library open with volunteer teachers, organized color-coded books, and let students read on-site or at home before taking quizzes. The district later piloted Renaissance myON® Reader and myON® News for digital access, extending reading beyond school hours. The result was a lively summer program that brought students and teachers together, helped reduce summer reading loss, and strengthened the district’s reading culture.
