Better data, better decisions: Building an assessment portfolio to energize achievement

Hartford School District in Hartford, Vermont, needed a better way to assess student performance and turn that data into timely, actionable insights for teachers and administrators. Working with Renaissance, the district looked for tools that could support standards-based and proficiency-based learning while fitting a tight budget and declining enrollment.

Renaissance implemented Star Reading, Star Math, and Star 360 for the district’s Regional Alternative Program, giving Hartford frequent, easy-to-administer interim assessments and clear dashboard reporting. The result was faster, more usable data across about 1,300 students, helping schools group students for intervention or enrichment, expand Tier 1 instruction, and make more informed curriculum decisions with minimal testing time—sometimes as little as 20 minutes per assessment.
