ACN Inc's Supersized Database Migration and Hardware Upgrade Project

ACN, a global direct seller of telecommunications, energy, security, and merchant services, needed to complete a major database and infrastructure transformation without disrupting critical operations. To support this effort, ACN worked with Remote DBA Experts (RDX) on a project that involved upgrading its database hardware from 32-bit to 64-bit and moving from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2008 R2 across more than 2,000 databases.

Remote DBA Experts provided DBA support throughout research, planning, testing, and production cutovers, including application analysis, performance tracing, security review, and backup/recovery validation. RDX also helped ACN use NetApp replication to shorten cutover times and coordinated closely with development teams to fit the work into Agile processes. The result was a smooth migration with no major surprises and minimal operational impact, while ACN improved database performance, availability, and security across its environment.
