Using Remix for Day-to-Day Planning in Louisville

The Transit Authority of River City serves Louisville, KY, a low-density, sprawling region where employment centers often lie outside existing service. Planners faced a complex, time-consuming process—using separate GIS, Excel, and scheduling tools to estimate time-, distance- and vehicle-based costs and to run demographic and equity analyses required by federal regulations. To streamline this work they turned to Remix’s planning platform.

Remix consolidated costing, route design, and demographic analysis into one tool, letting TARC planners build templates, run rapid “what‑if” scenarios, and produce project-level estimates for efforts like the TIGER-funded BRT and Move Louisville studies. Using Remix, Josh Poe reduced analysis time from days or a week to a couple hours, quickly produced shareable management-ready comparisons, and even redesigned a corridor to increase span, frequency, and coverage while remaining almost cost-neutral.
