Scenario Planning and Service Tweaks in Pierce County

Pierce Transit faced the dual challenge of developing a long‑range reinvention of its network while rapidly iterating short‑ and medium‑term service changes. To avoid repeatedly redrawing routes in GIS, Pierce Transit used Remix to sketch an aspirational scenario for its Destination 2040 plan—mapping routes and a.m. peak frequencies and exporting the design as a shapefile—while also using the platform routinely to evaluate many alternative route iterations.

Remix enabled Pierce Transit to quickly model BRT and route scenarios (7–20 miles), estimate service hours and miles, and quantify nearby people, jobs and other demographics to support board, focus group and public discussions. The tool made it easy to reality‑check proposals and sharpen tradeoffs, for example showing that one alignment would serve an additional 14,000 jobs within a quarter‑mile of downtown stops—demonstrating measurable impact and accelerating decision‑making with Remix.
