Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation - Customer Case Study

Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation (PART) serves North Carolina’s largely rural Piedmont Triad and faced the challenge of underperforming, non‑standard routes and limited data on how changes (like increasing frequency) would affect ridership. Director of Planning Mark Kirstner and his team had been relying on large spreadsheets, Google Earth route estimates, travel‑demand and LEHD data assembled manually, and needed a way to connect land‑use and transit planning more systematically. They turned to Remix’s transit planning tools to help visualize and test alternatives.

Remix automated much of PART’s manual workflow, enabling visualization of catchment areas, five‑minute walk zones, LEHD flows, and on‑the‑fly scenario testing so the agency could refine routes and service areas based on socioeconomic and ridership data. By replacing the “super‑spreadsheet” and ad‑hoc mapping with Remix, PART sped analysis, improved route design and decision‑making, and moved toward more data‑driven frequency and network changes that better identify where service will be most effective.
