A Remix Case Study
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization—responsible for planning across 36 cities, towns, and counties and serving about 1.3 million people—needed to prepare for a possible referendum to fund fixed-route transit in Hamilton County. Facing the question “what does a quarter of a cent buy,” Indy MPO used Remix to research, design, and plan potential fixed-route service, produce public-ready maps, and provide realistic projections for stakeholders ahead of the vote.
Using Remix’s network design tools, demographic layers, costing calculations, and map export capabilities, Indy MPO developed seven scenarios for seven funding levels, priced routes and adjusted frequencies quickly, and produced stakeholder-ready materials. By doing the work in-house with Remix, the MPO avoided an estimated $100,000–$150,000 consultant contract, gained faster, more realistic analyses for public engagement, and enabled the referendum planning to move forward.
