Iceland’s Straetó Gains Process Efficiencies While Driving Public Engagement

Strætó is the municipality-owned public transport authority and operator for the Greater Reykjavík area in Iceland, running some 48 bus routes and about 200 buses. Faced with slow, manual workflows for drawing maps, calculating cost impacts of route and schedule changes, and limited channels for public input, Strætó needed a faster, data-driven planning tool—so they onboarded Remix (Remix Transit) to provide planning infrastructure, data and public engagement capabilities.

Using Remix, Strætó cut route drawing time from about 12 hours to 1 hour and reduced planning tasks that once took 10 hours to roughly 10 minutes, saved about $550 per map by avoiding external agencies, and captured 600+ public suggestions through Remix’s outreach tools. Remix also enabled quicker, data-backed responses to politicians and the Board, improved scenario cost calculations, and increased internal self-sufficiency in network planning.
