A Remix Case Study
Puerto Rico’s newly formed Integrated Transit Authority (PRITA) inherited a fragmented, inefficient network of buses, rail and ferries with redundant services, aging infrastructure, few vehicles and a tight budget. To increase frequency on key corridors while limiting cost and social harm, the agency and local consultants turned to Remix — including its Jane isochrone tool and demographic data layers — to visualize travel times, overlaps with Tren Urbano rail, and the distribution of vulnerable populations.
Using Remix’s mapping, isochrone and population layers, PRITA reallocated service to higher-demand routes, cut routes from 37 to 30, and reduced average peak headways from about 50 minutes to 25. Remix’s analysis also helped protect low‑income neighborhoods from disproportionate cuts and supported a 3,000‑rider daily increase on Tren Urbano in the months after implementation, demonstrating measurable cost, access, and social-impact improvements.
