Bringing Remix Into the Field With Pace Suburban Bus

Pace Suburban Bus (Pace Bus), one of North America’s largest transit networks covering more than 3,500 miles around the Chicago region, needed better tools to plan and validate expanding suburban and regional-rapid services, route extensions, and paratransit/express connections. Around the time service planner Ryan Ruehle joined, Pace began using Remix — particularly its mapping and sketching features — to analyze potential routing, demographic proximity, and on-the-ground feasibility.

Remix’s sketching, demographic maps, and browser-accessible maps on mobile devices let Pace draw candidate lines and stops, compare population and disadvantaged-population concentrations, and use field timing to validate designs. According to Pace, Remix has sharpened idea screening and targeting—helping staff decide which routes to invest time and resources in, refine configurations before implementation, and avoid wasted planning effort (the case study provides qualitative rather than numeric impact).
