A Relias Case Study
Cordova Community Medical Center (CCMC) is a 23-bed critical access hospital in Cordova, Alaska with about 65 staff. Leadership struggled with subjective hiring decisions (often made by nonclinical HR), a paper-heavy, time-consuming orientation process, an outdated LMS that didn’t prove competency, and frequent turnover of traveling nurses—making consistent, competency-based training and reliable hiring a major challenge.
CCMC implemented the Relias Nursing Suite—Relias Assessments for objective candidate screening, Relias Onboarding for automated, pre-arrival orientation, and the Relias LMS for competency-based CEUs and unit-specific training templates. The result was faster, more efficient onboarding, better compliance visibility through HRIS integration, standardized competency across permanent and travel staff, and a cost‑effective way to hire and develop clinicians who meet both clinical and community needs.
