Taking Replenishment of Fresh Products to the Next Level in a Central Warehouse Environment

Tuko Logistics, a Finnish food wholesale and supply chain operator serving over 1,000 outlets and about 4,500 foodservice clients, needed to improve replenishment of short shelf-life fresh products at its central warehouse. Their existing process required collecting inventory levels, sell-by dates and replenishment data from separate systems, making daily replenishment of hundreds of fresh lines labor-intensive and error-prone, and limiting their ability to reduce spoilage and deliver fresher goods.

RELEX implemented batch-level inventory control by integrating real-time batch data from Tuko’s WMS and sell-by dates from a back-end system into its replenishment engine. This enabled simulated spoilage forecasting and automatic preemptive replenishment orders. As a result, labor for replenishment and follow-up was drastically reduced, availability of short-life items improved, spoilage was kept under control, and more accurate, fresher demand signals could be shared upstream with suppliers.
