S Group is a leading Finnish retail co‑op with about 1,000 grocery stores and ~20,000 store personnel. Although it had already defined “main replenishment days” to make in‑store restocking more efficient, planners spent excessive time manually setting them across diverse store layouts and demand patterns and sought a more scalable, accurate approach with longtime partner RELEX.

RELEX applied a swarm‑intelligence AI to optimize main delivery days per store and product display group, piloting the solution in nearly 200 stores. The automated, granular optimization consolidated more similar products into the same deliveries, kept on‑shelf availability and spoilage stable or improved, and produced a much smoother inbound goods flow—resulting in more balanced staff workloads, more predictable shifts and significantly fewer capacity issues.
