Managing a Complex DC Replenishment Operation

Tuko Logistics is a Finnish grocery wholesaler and supply chain service provider serving about 1,000 retail outlets and 4,500 HoReCa clients, delivering roughly 25,000 SKUs from 1,600 suppliers and processing ~45.5 million order rows a year. The company’s central distribution operation struggled with high fresh-product volumes, short shelf lives and fragmented forecasting—suppliers and customers were guessing demand—creating challenges in capacity planning, purchasing and inventory control.

Starting in 2012 Tuko implemented RELEX to integrate customer forecasts, historical sales and multi-level supply data using thousands of model combinations, enabling automated replenishment and batch-level spoilage monitoring. Results included 80–90% purchase order automation with availability over 99%, a ~40% cut in spoilage, an 8–10% reduction in inventory (3.1% capital saving), 2–3 weeks’ better forecast accuracy, 50% smaller planning team and optimized peak operations; some suppliers now even share costs to access the accurate forecasts.
