A RELEX Solutions Case Study

Preview of the Booths Case Study

Cool Innovations with Strong Supply Chain Management

Booths is a family‑owned, leading regional supermarket chain in northwest England (29 stores, 3 DCs, ~13–14k SKUs) that competes on curated assortment, quality and service. Its challenges included managing many short‑life fresh and bakery items from local suppliers, poor visibility between stores and DCs, manual ordering processes, complex promotion uplift and highly variable weather — all of which made accurate store‑level forecasting and timely replenishment difficult.

RELEX implemented a tailored planning and replenishment solution: day‑ahead preliminary orders to suppliers with next‑day inventory‑based adjustments, automated store‑level bakery replenishment, promotion and weather‑tagged forecasting, minimum shelf allocations, synchronized DC/store ordering and built‑in failsafes. The change improved warehouse timing and culture, delivered more reliable 7‑day forecasts, cut spoilage (fresh cabinet down 20%, overall >10%), moved Booths into the Top 3 UK supermarkets for availability and produced noticeably fresher products.
